What you will learn: Participants will learn about dormant pruning of grapevines, including plant physiology related to dormancy and the timing, intensity, and proper methods for dormant pruning. Focus will be placed on wine grape pruning and will include how to do both cane and spur pruning methods and how to prune mature and young vines. NOTE: The same concepts apply for all grapevine pruning, whether wine, table or juice grapes.
Schedule of the event: The event will start with a lecture on main campus to cover dormant plant physiology, pruning basics, and the methods involved in pruning and training vines (1 hour duration). The group will then travel to OSU's Woodhall Vineyard (45 min drive) for hands-on training of how to prune grapevines (2 hours).
